Welcome to the Stewart County Trustee's Office Website. It is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Trustee serves three primary functions:

1. Collection of all county property taxes (All property real and personal, tangible and intangible, must be assessed for taxation by the state or its political subdivisions unless property is declared to be exempt by some provision of Tennessee law).

2. Keeping a fair and regular account of all money received.

3. Investing temporarily idle county funds until needed to meet county obligations.

The Trustee disburses sales tax revenues and other state and local taxes. The trustee acts as the general banker for the county, Stewart County School System, and County Highway Department, receiving and paying out funds. The Trustee must keep a detailed account of these transactions.

The Trustee administers a state funded tax relief program to help the elderly and disabled citizens to pay their property taxes. For qualifying applicants the state a Tennessee will pay a portion of the property taxes for their home. Application must be completed no later than 35 days after the February 28th tax payment deadline.
Property tax rates are set by the Stewart County Board of Commissioners in conjunction with the assessor of property who has evaluated and assigned a value to the property.

The Trustee then receives the Tax roll, and mails notices in October of each year. Payment period for county taxes begins October 1st and continues through February of the following year. On March 1st county taxes become delinquent and begin to accrue 1.5% per month interest. For anyone who may have difficulty in paying taxes in one lump sum, we accept up to four partial payments on a tax bill. Of course, any unpaid balance after March 1st following the tax year accrues each month by law 1.5%  interest.

I am honored to serve you. I strive to serve the people of Stewart County by providing the best, convenient and most efficient service possible.
